Family Travel Destin Florida
When taking a family vacation we always look at how family friendly the entire area is, not just the resort itself. Thankfully when we visited Destin Florida we had some of the best tour guides (auntie & uncle). The boys were thrilled that we had to head to Destin Florida for a work conference, and I just couldn’t believe it was in the same city that my brother, sister in law, and nephew recently moved to.
I hadn’t seen them in almost two years thanks to everything going on in the world, so when the location for the conference popped up we knew we had to take an extended time away to visit with family. For the first few days we stayed right in the heart of Destin with family, then the next few days were spent at Sandestin Resort where the conference was located.
The one must have thing on this trip? Memaw; she was our extra set of hands and she was thrilled to see all 4 of her grandchildren at once. I also enjoyed having a mini date night with my husband and some bonding time with my mother. Living 12 hours away from family while raising children is difficult, but it makes these moments even more special.
The resort was beautiful with a lot to do. I would recommend renting a golf cart if that is an option. We stayed at beachside with less than a 2 minute walk to the beach, private pools, and a restaurant right next to it. We took daily trips out to the other side of the resort where they had a whole shopping and dinning area, treehouse, playground and nightly entertainment.
The only downside, our 2 am wake up call when the fire alarm went off. The children and I were in the car with no communication from anyone about what was happening and if it was safe to return to our room. Even the fire department seemed to have trouble getting in touch with the resort itself. Honestly this left a sour taste regarding the whole trip. Especially since there was no communication. I actually had to inform other guests who were outside sitting in the parking lot next to the hotel that the fire department informed my husband it was finally safe to return to the resort.
Obviously these things happen, and are often rare. I want to say that we will return in the future since this conference is held there yearly but I’m not sure we would stay at the same location. There are many different options for lodging within the resort property.
